Planning to start competing in Lincoln-Douglas (aka LD) or Team Policy (aka Policy, TP, CX) competitive debate this fall, and not sure where to start? We’re hosting an online orientation camp from August 25-28, 9am-12pm Pacific Time daily, to get you ready for a great first season!
The camp experience
This camp is designed to be accessible to new debaters, while providing a variety of helpful new resources and practice opportunities to experienced debaters. We’ll begin by developing the core concepts and skills of competitive debate, through a series of practice debates with peer and coach feedback.
Once campers are comfortable with the basics, we’ll cover the unique concepts and norms of Lincoln-Douglas and Team Policy debate, such as the basic history of ethics, contemporary debates in ethical theory, policy design, and policy analysis.
Beyond meetings, some light homework (approximately 1-2 hours per day) is assigned. Parents/guardians are welcome to join the Zoom call to observe and ask questions as well. The camp will be coached by Price Morgan, a national champion IPDA college debater and coach of several nationally ranked ASDA debaters.
