New Student Checklist

New students in Ready Set Debate clubs and camps (and their parents/guardians, where applicable) should complete the tasks listed here to make sure they are fully oriented. If you have any questions, please contact us.

New students are emailed an online packet with specific information about their activity. Review this packet and complete the following tasks:

  1. Bookmark the packet so you can easily find it later.
  2. Add the dates of your activity to your calendar. Make sure to account for time zone differences, if relevant, and set reminders so you don’t forget.
  3. Join the email loop or Google Classroom for your activity, if applicable. If your activity uses Google Classroom, make sure your notifications are set to notify you when someone posts to the group.
  1. Review our upcoming debate tournaments. Add the dates of any tournaments you want to attend to your calendar, and register if you are ready. If you are not yet ready to register, make sure to note registration deadlines.
  2. Review some debate videos in our video gallery. This will help you familiarize yourself with the basic norms of our activities.
  3. Review our FAQs page.
  4. Review our core documentation.
  1. Whitelist emails from the @readysetdebate.com domain. This is how you can make sure you’re receiving relevant emails such as assignment and schedule updates. See this page to find out how to whitelist senders in most common email systems.
  2. Skim your member handbook, once you have received it. Sign and date the H.E.R.O. Code of Conduct in your handbook.
  3. Put together a kit of meeting supplies to have on hand during meetings. This should include the member handbook, some notebook paper, two differently colored writing implements, and a highlighter.
